Let The Madden Curse Reign Supreme
Just prior to the turn of the century, John Madden, the former Oakland Raiders coach and jolly, fat man analyst plastered his own rounded features on to the cover of his product. Perhaps marketers felt an NFL athlete’s star power sold more copies than Madden’s portrait ever could. Beside, if you look at Madden, he’s got a touch of the crazy-eyes and always looks like he’s thinking about a cheeseburger or maybe that hammer he bought at ACE hardware.
