State’s Schools Get Double ‘Jeopardy!’
He was rearrested in connection with the murder after he reentered the United States. Miura was tried in Japan for Kazumi’s murder, but acquitted after the Supreme Court rejected a prosecution appeal in 2003. The Martinez ruling now means prosecutors are likely to be forced into a grueling court battle to get Miura tried in the United States. The county police’s cold case unit got wind of the fact he had reentered the United States illegally, and arrested him in September last year.
