These funds are raised by submarine spouses from around the Navy including San Diego’s local Submarine Squadron (CSS) 11. Spouses from CSS 11’s senior leadership head local efforts. Kathleen Saunders represents the enlisted community and Paula Jaenichen represents the officer community in the spouse organization. “These scholarships are not given,” said Saunders. Some of the items up for bid at the Kentucky Derby-themed event were San Diego Padres tickets, a 50-inch projection TV, a paint ball party and various other items.
