Recent manga news has not been good, and it bears examination. The recent round of woes began with a new online initiative, the Manga Pilot Program. Hot on the heels of that dust-up came news of a drastic reorganization into two entities, one focused on traditional publishing and another, Tokyopop Media, dedicated to property development in other venues. Thirty-nine employees lost their jobs, and Tokyopop’s print releases will be reduced approximately 50% over the next year.
