NYRA Still Backing Dirt Surfaces
David Paterson showed Wednesday he is no fan of the franchise extension the state is giving the New York Racing Association, but said he will live with it. As he talked about the state’s weak financial shape and ways to improve it, Paterson said the deal struck among NYRA, Gov. Eliot Spitzer and the Legislature essentially rewarded the racing association for “pretty poor performance.” Three agency heads joined Paterson in a news conference to disclose their agency’s cost-cutting strategies, which include switching the type of copying paper, increasing teleconferences and using technology more effectively.
